Winnipeg, Manitoba (October 25, 2004) - General
Motors Canada saluted New Flyer’s leadership in hybrid technology and
environmental initiatives today as part of its Mission Green Tour. Mission Green
is a cross-Canada tour which salutes 85 Canadian environmental initiatives
helping to create a cleaner, healthier environment.
"We are very pleased to be recognized on GM Canada’s Mission Green Tour,"
said John Marinucci, President and CEO of New Flyer. "Our 1900 proud bus
builders have worked diligently not only to design and manufacture hybrid and
alternate fuel vehicles, but to ensure we are proactively identifying and
implementing environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes which benefit both
our employees and the communities in which we operate."
New Flyer began developing green transportation solutions in the mid-1990’s
and delivered its first hybrid vehicle in 1998. New Flyer’s commitment to
continual innovation has resulted in its leadership position in hybrid vehicles.
New Flyer has more hybrid vehicles on the road accumulating more revenue service
miles than all other North American manufacturers combined. We offer the
broadest selection of hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles, offering
diesel-electric, gasoline-electric, clean diesel, liquefied and compressed
natural gas and electric trolley powertrains in 30’35’40’ and 60’ vehicles.
In addition to hybrid vehicle leadership, New Flyer has made significant
progress on improving the impact its manufacturing operations and facilities
have on the environment. Since 2002, New Flyer’s Winnipeg facility has reduced
harmful volatile organic compound emissions by 70%. The St. Cloud, Minnesota
facility was recently acknowledged as a significant contributor in helping the
city of St. Cloud receive the Most Valuable Pollution Prevention Award from the
National Pollution Prevention Council. New Flyer has also been nominated for the
prestigious Blue Sky Award and is actively working toward certification of its
environmental management systems to the ISO 14001 global standard.
